Battle Creek Lights brings together more than 1,400 eligible homes across the Battle Creek community for one communitywide Christmas light competition.

More than 5,000 pieces of printed competition material will be distributed throughout participating neighborhoods, inviting residents to decorate, nominate homes, vote, and explore the community during the Christmas season.

How it works

Three simple steps, November 16 through December 26.

Decorate and enter
November 16 – December 6
Decorate your home and enter it (or nominate a neighbor, with their permission) during the nomination period. Finished displays and photos are due by December 6 at 9:00 p.m.
Step 2
Browse and vote
December 7 – 13
Browse every participating home and vote for your favorites. Voting opens December 7 at noon and closes December 13 at 9:00 p.m.
Step 3
Celebrate the winners
December 18
Winners are announced December 18. Keep enjoying the lights nightly through December 26.

One public voting round

Every approved, complete entry is included for the whole voting period — Monday, December 7, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Central through Sunday, December 13, 2026 at 9:00 p.m. Central. Vote totals and rankings stay private, and results are published with the winners on December 18.

Why Battle Creek Lights exists

Battle Creek contains a number of individual neighborhoods, but Battle Creek Lights brings the larger community together for one Christmas tradition. Instead of small separate contests, residents throughout the area compete, vote, tour the participating homes, and celebrate Christmas together.
